# Ping Monitoring

Monitoring with ping checks allows you to verify the availability and response times of domains and network devices on which Pulsar cannot be installed. This is done using Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo requests ("pings") sent to the target system. One ping is performed per minute.

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Please note**: To monitor network devices and domains via ping, you must [install the Watchdog component](/docs/manual/english/installation-and-configuration/installation-and-configuration/enginsight-components/watchdog.md#install-watchdog) in the subnet in which the respective device is located or through which the respective domain can be reached.
{% endhint %}

:compass: Navigate to **Observations** → **Ping Monitoring** to display a list of all configured ping checks. If you have not created a ping check yet, this view is empty.

Among other things, the [Ping Monitoring Overview](#ping-monitoring-overview) shows:

* whether a target system is reachable.
* which network device and IP address or which domain is monitored via ping.
* when the target system was last pinged.
* which Watchdog is responsible for ping monitoring.

You can also [add new ping checks](#add-ping-check).
