# Cockpits

Cockpits allow you to create custom dashboards for your SIEM or import cockpits managed by Enginsight so that you can monitor key metrics without any additional configuration effort.

***

<i class="fa-compass">:compass:</i> Navigate to **SIEM** → **Cockpits** to show a list of all cockpits you use. These can be custom cockpits or imported managed cockpits. If you have not yet created a cockpit or imported a managed cockpit, this view is empty.

The [cockpit overview](#cockpits-overview) provides information such as:

* which cockpits have already been created.
* whether a cockpit is managed.

You can also [add new custom cockpits](#option-1-create-custom-cockpit) or [import managed cockpits](#option-2-import-managed-cockpits).

## Adding a Cockpit

There are two ways to add a cockpit. You can configure [custom dashboards](#option-1-create-custom-cockpit) or use [cockpits managed by Enginsight](#option-2-import-managed-cockpits).

### Option 1: Creating a Custom Cockpit

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click <i class="fa-plus">:plus:</i> **Add Cockpit** in the upper-right corner to create a new cockpit. The **Manage Cockpit** window opens.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://2423388680-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV7OrHgKXA0t1jankQBYf%2Fuploads%2FfXihQbFVA5nMeMiVzm4v%2FEnginsight-EN-SIEM-Add%20Cockpit-Dialog.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=d054c834-6d3a-411d-9a32-9d73ab8f4b92" alt="" width="470"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

The following options are available:

<table><thead><tr><th width="200.47265625">Option</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Name</td><td>Enter a meaningful name for the Cockpit.</td></tr><tr><td>Description</td><td><p>Provide a more detailed description of the Cockpit.</p><div data-gb-custom-block data-tag="hint" data-style="info" class="hint hint-info"><p>This field is optional.</p></div></td></tr></tbody></table>

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click **Add Cockpit** to [create a new Cockpit](/docs/manual/english/platform-usage/siem/cockpits/add-cockpit.md). The **SIEM** → **Cockpit** → **\<Cockpit Name>** view opens, where you can begin [adding widgets to your Cockpit](/docs/manual/english/platform-usage/siem/cockpits/add-cockpit.md#add-widget).

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click **Back** to return to the list view.

### Option 2: Importing Managed Cockpits

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click <i class="fa-plus">:plus:</i> **Browse Managed Cockpits** in the upper-right corner to show a list of all available managed cockpits. The **SIEM** → **Cockpits** → **Managed** view opens.

<figure><img src="https://2423388680-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV7OrHgKXA0t1jankQBYf%2Fuploads%2Fwi1FZLrrMsxkXQrwAkT1%2FEnginsight-EN-SIEM-Cockpits-Import%20Cockpits-Overview.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=46754cfe-03a6-4523-9670-4671d0b2dae4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Select the checkbox <i class="fa-square">:square:</i> next to a managed cockpit to select it for import. Alternatively, select the checkbox in the table header to select all managed cockpits.

The number of selected cockpits is then displayed next to the search field.

The <i class="fa-up-from-dotted-line">:up-from-dotted-line:</i> **Import** button also appears in the upper-right corner. Click it to open the **Import Cockpit** window.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://2423388680-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV7OrHgKXA0t1jankQBYf%2Fuploads%2F3oNRt7loq3BMgBwSXjgW%2FEnginsight-EN-SIEM-Cockpits-Import%20Cockpit-Prompt.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=c8999b91-67b7-4852-bdd6-20f2dfe0b076" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

All managed cockpits selected for import are listed again at the top of the window.

The following option is also available:

<table><thead><tr><th width="199.5">Option</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Managed (Recommended)</td><td><p>Enable this option to keep the cockpit managed by Enginsight. This means that the widgets used in the cockpit and the shown metrics are automatically updated, added, or removed.</p><div data-gb-custom-block data-tag="hint" data-style="info" class="hint hint-info"><p>This option is enabled by default.</p></div><div data-gb-custom-block data-tag="hint" data-style="warning" class="hint hint-warning"><p><strong>Please note</strong>: Managed cockpits cannot be customized.</p></div></td></tr></tbody></table>

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click **Import** to import all selected managed cockpits and show them in the [cockpit overview](#cockpits-overview).

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click **Cancel** or the **Close** icon <i class="fa-xmark">:xmark:</i> to return to the cockpit overview without importing.
