# Add Target Group

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click <i class="fa-plus">:plus:</i> **Add Target Groups** in the upper-right corner to create a new target system for a penetration test. The **Penetration Tests** → **Target Groups** → **Add** view opens.

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> After configuring all settings, click **Add Target Group** to create the new target system.

<i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click **Back** to return to the list overview.

## General Settings

Here you can configure various basic settings.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://2423388680-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV7OrHgKXA0t1jankQBYf%2Fuploads%2Fu98ryyj566f6xzAz0Sai%2Fenginsight-screenshot-penetrations%20testing-management-target%20groups-add%20target%20group-general%20settings.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=87b39f42-b793-411d-b458-de352e92197d" alt="" width="363"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

The following options are available:

<table><thead><tr><th width="200.359375">Option</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Name</td><td>Enter a meaningful name for the target group.</td></tr><tr><td>Description</td><td><p>Provide a more detailed description for the target group.</p><div data-gb-custom-block data-tag="hint" data-style="info" class="hint hint-info"><p>This field is optional.</p></div></td></tr></tbody></table>

## IP Addresses

Here you can define individual IP addresses, IP address ranges, or entire subnets as targets.

<figure><img src="https://2423388680-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV7OrHgKXA0t1jankQBYf%2Fuploads%2FtaLDtTd07IvWWHF6NXNv%2Fenginsight-screenshot-penetrations%20testing-management-target%20groups-add%20target%20group-ip%20adresses.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=7f9659ed-03b2-450c-a0b7-ba25349af86d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Please note**: We recommend that you first check whether it would be more appropriate for your network to use a [Watchdog's asset inventory for the penetration test](#watchdogs). Because Hacktor pings every individual IP address, a penetration test across an entire subnet takes significantly longer. The test results will also contain many offline targets, as only small parts of a subnet are typically in use.
{% endhint %}

The following options are available:

<table><thead><tr><th width="200.359375">Option</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>IP Address / Hostname / CIDR</td><td><p>Define one or more targets on which a penetration test should be performed.</p><p></p><p>In the <strong>Targets</strong> field, enter a specific IP address, a host name, an IP address range, or a subnet <a href="/docs/manual/english/appendix/defining-ip-address-ranges-and-subnets.md">in Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) notation</a>.</p><p></p><p><i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click the <strong>Plus</strong> icon <i class="fa-plus">:plus:</i> or press <strong>Enter</strong> to add the specified target. ## Watchdogs

Here you can select Watchdogs and use their monitored assets as targets for a penetration test.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Please note**: You should always define either an IP address range **or** a Watchdog to avoid duplicate targets during a network scan.
{% endhint %}

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://2423388680-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV7OrHgKXA0t1jankQBYf%2Fuploads%2FtPgPsEJ6t0l4SCK6EIOZ%2Fenginsight-screenshot-penetrations%20testing-management-target%20groups-add%20target%20group-watchdogs.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=2d391b1a-d77c-4c17-b90b-8a01b59acf4a" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

The following options are available:

Alternatively, use the free-text input to find Watchdogs in the list more quickly.<br><br><i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click the <strong>Remove</strong> icon <i class="fa-circle-xmark">:circle-xmark:</i> next to an added Watchdog to remove it from the <strong>Watchdog</strong> field.</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Endpoints

Here you can define specific [endpoints](/docs/manual/english/platform-usage/endpoints.md) (websites and domains) as targets for a penetration test.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://2423388680-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV7OrHgKXA0t1jankQBYf%2Fuploads%2FUchWpZyGdcwfNZ1HFVa2%2Fenginsight-screenshot-penetrations%20testing-management-target%20groups-add%20target%20group-endpoints.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=75ccc208-85e7-46cd-acb3-9db2a3e544dc" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

The following options are available:

<table><thead><tr><th width="200.359375">Option</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Endpoints</td><td><p>Select the endpoints on which a penetration test should be performed.</p><p></p><p><i class="fa-computer-mouse">:computer-mouse:</i> Click the <strong>Endpoints</strong> field to expand a list of all available endpoints, and select one or more endpoints.
