# Port Monitoring

Monitoring with port checks allows you to verify the availability of domains and network devices on which Pulsar cannot be installed by checking whether specific ports are reachable.

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Please note**: To monitor ports on target systems, you must [install the Watchdog](/docs/manual/english/installation-and-configuration/installation-and-configuration/enginsight-components/watchdog.md#install-watchdog) component in the subnet in which the respective device is located or through which the respective domain can be reached.
{% endhint %}

:compass: Navigate to **Observations** → **Port Monitoring** to display a list of all configured port checks. If you have not created a port check yet, this view is empty.

Among other things, the [Port Monitoring Overview](#port-monitoring-overview) shows:

* whether specific ports on a target system are reachable.
* which network device and IP address or which domain is being monitored.
* when the reachability of the specified ports was last checked.
* which Watchdog is responsible for port monitoring.

You can also [add new port checks](#add-port-check).
