# Hosts

In Enginsight, a host is a server or client on which the Enginsight agent Pulsar was installed to monitor the host from within.

***

## Requirements

* To monitor a host in detail and detect and block network attacks, a [Pulsar must be installed](/docs/manual/english/installation-and-configuration/installation-and-configuration/enginsight-components/pulsar.md) on each host.
* Pulsar can only be installed on [supported operating systems](/docs/manual/english/installation-and-configuration/system-requirements/pulsar.md#supported-operating-systems-pulsar).
