# License Management

For an on-premises instance of Enginsight, you need at least one individual license or a license package, depending on your requirements. Each license is valid for one year.

At least one on-premises license is required per main organization, with the option to distribute the license contingents across multiple suborganizations:

## Available License Types

Three different license types are available:

### On-Premises License

This license is mandatory for operating the Enginsight platform and is required for each main organization. Pricing is based on the number of licensed assets.

Assets include hosts (servers and clients) as well as endpoints (websites and domains).

Licensed asset contingents can be distributed across any number of suborganizations using the [Contingent Management view](/docs/manual/english/administration/settings/contingent-management.md).

### Hacktor License

The Enginsight component Hacktor is required to perform [penetration tests](/docs/manual/english/platform-usage/penetration-testing.md) and is licensed separately.

The number of required Hacktor licenses is calculated as follows:

* **1 license**: Installation of 1-3 Hacktor components
* **2 licenses**: Installation of 4-6 Hacktor components
* **3 licenses**: Installation of 7-9 Hacktor components

### SIEM

The [Enginsight SIEM](/docs/manual/english/platform-usage/siem.md) (Security Information and Event Management) is an add-on for the Enginsight platform. It cannot be deployed without an on-premises license.

## Purchasing and Uploading a License

Contact us at *<insidesales@enginsight.com>* to purchase a license.

After purchasing an individual license or a license package, you will receive the corresponding license file or files with a license key from us.

If the licenses for your main organization are managed via the **Enginsight License Server** (*get.enginsight.com*), new licenses and license updates are applied automatically after purchase. Your Enginsight instance synchronizes with the License Server every 20 minutes.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Please note**: Your Enginsight instance must be able to access the License Server (*get.enginsight.com*) via the internet to receive automatic license updates.
{% endhint %}

If the licenses for your main organization are *not* managed via the Enginsight License Server, for example because your Enginsight instance does not have internet access, you can optionally upload the license key under **Settings** → [License](/docs/manual/english/administration/settings/license.md) in the Enginsight platform.
