# I am not able to reinstall a deleted host in Enginsight. What can I do?

If you delete a host via the user interface of the Enginsight platform, it is initially only removed from the host overview, meaning its entry is deleted from MongoDB. The Pulsar installed on the host is not uninstalled immediately. Instead, it continues sending HTTPS requests to the Enginsight API for 30 days. The API responds to these requests with status code 409 because the host is unknown at that point. After 30 days, the Pulsar uninstalls itself.

This safety mechanism prevents the Pulsar from uninstalling itself unintentionally, for example if the database is temporarily unavailable and the API cannot retrieve the host ID.

If you try to reinstall the Pulsar on the same host within this 30-day period, the API detects that status code 409 is still being returned and the Pulsar cannot be added again on this host.

You have two options to solve this problem:

* [Uninstalling Pulsar Manually](#uninstalling-pulsar-manually)
* [Forcing Pulsar to Reinstall](#forcing-pulsar-to-reinstall)

***

## Uninstalling Pulsar Manually

You can manually uninstall Pulsar directly on the host where it is installed. Follow these steps:

### Uninstalling on Linux and macOS <a href="#uninstall-on-linux-and-macos" id="uninstall-on-linux-and-macos"></a>

1. Log in to the Linux or macOS host on which the Pulsar you want to uninstall is installed.
2. Run the uninstall script using the following command:

```
sudo /opt/enginsight/pulsar/uninstall.sh
```

### Uninstalling on Windows <a href="#uninstall-on-windows" id="uninstall-on-windows"></a>

1. Log in to the Windows host on which the Pulsar you want to uninstall is installed.
2. Open PowerShell as an administrator:
   1. Press the **Windows** key + **R**.
   2. Enter `powershell`.
   3. Confirm by pressing **Ctrl** + **Shift** + **Enter**.
3. Run the uninstall script using the following command:

```
& "C:\Program Files\Enginsight\Pulsar\uninstall.ps1"
```

### Reinstalling Pulsar

Now reinstall the Pulsar on the host as usual via the user interface of the Enginsight platform.

## Forcing Pulsar to Reinstall

You can force Pulsar to reinstall on the host. To do this, add the parameter `force=true` to the installation script.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Please note**: With this method, settings you previously configured for the host are not kept. They are overwritten.
{% endhint %}

Follow these steps:

1. Get the Pulsar installation script as usual via the user interface.
2. Before running the installation script on the host, add the parameter `force=true`:

### Linux (Example)

<pre><code>sudo bash -c "$(curl -sSL https://&#x3C;URL_API>/v1/_/pulsar/setup.sh)" -- identifier=&#x3C;Identifier>    \
    license=client            \
    accessKeyId=&#x3C;AccessKeyID>            \
    accessKeySecret=&#x3C;AccessKeySecret>            \
    api=https://&#x3C;URL_API>            \
<strong>    force=true
</strong></code></pre>

### Windows (Example)

<pre><code>powershell
$dl='https://&#x3C;URL_API>/v1/_/pulsar/latest/ngs-pulsar-setup.exe'
[Net.ServicePointManager]::SecurityProtocol = [Net.SecurityProtocolType]::Tls12
(New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadFile($dl,"$env:TEMP\ngs-pulsar-setup.exe");
&#x26; "$env:TEMP\ngs-pulsar-setup.exe"    `
    -acceptEula=true -interactive=false -license client     `
    -accessKeyId &#x3C;AccessKeyID>    `
    -accessKeySecret &#x3C;AccessKeySecret>    `
    -api https://&#x3C;URL_API> `
<strong>    -force=true
</strong></code></pre>

3. Complete the Pulsar installation as usual.
